Why?

Why is a question I’ve been asking ever since I learned the concept of ask. Why am I here? Why is it like this? Why anything and everything?

Think I finally may have the answer.

Always figured I would have to find a spiritual answer to that question, my existential yawp. An implied communication from God or something. Some kind of deep soul experience of truth. But no, it comes from science and reason. Who would’ve thunk it?

The answer lies in M-theory, which to my shallow understanding is among the latest of quantum mechanical shots at a Theory of Everything. According to some proponents, there are an infinte number of parallel universes to ours. Not just different dimensions, but entire universes. These places – this infinity of complete universes – could vary from completely different from us to almost identical.

By the very definition of infinity that means that whatever can happen does happen. If something is rare or unlikely, infinity just keeps going until it happens, since the odds of something possible happening are always greater than 1 to infinity.

So that means that anything that can happen must happen, in one universe or another, at some time. There is nothing that doesn’t happen. Which leads us to my conclusion – Next time somebody asks, “Why is this happening?” you just say, “Because it had to.” It’s infinity’s fault.

Everything happens,

I thought you might like that one, azyh. You’re welcome. I find it comforting to find out that everything happens eventually.

    Have a great weekend!

I gave up years ago trying to answer WHY?
all it lead me to was more questions.
There are so many reasons why and sometimes none that make sense… and many times you don’t know why until 10 years later.
Why did I have to go through that???
So that I would find you!

thanks for being an answer to a why from years ago:)

I think it may be genetic. Some people were born to ask why and others could care less. Takes both types and there’s a lot to be said for not asking why. Never yet had a pet ask me why anything. Not very natural, all this why business.

Glad you’re so happy to find me, LJ. I’m hoping that was an example, because finding the actual me can be rather a chore.

Always delighted to answer a why, thanks!

So my beloved Saints may win the Superbowl. Yey!

    • LWIII says:

Not only may, Darrelyn, but will! Absolutely, they have to – just not necessarily in this universe, alas. Of course there are universes where the Saints have won every Super Bowl ever played, but you don’t live there.

Or do you? There’s an alternate universe where you’re saying, “Saints in the Super Bowl…again? Yawn.” There has to be, if it’s possible, since in infinite universes everything has to occur.

I remember the first time the Broncos went to the Super Bowl, after years and years of sucking, bigtime. It was amazing, a huge community release.

I’m so conflicted. I want the Saints to win really badly, but it would be so awesome to see Bret Favre vs Manning in the Supe. Will try to put all my rooting interest behind your beloved black and gold.

My Da always told me…* Lass, never stop asking Why and Why Not…that’s the best education you’ll ever give yourself bar none*

Oh er that and He who always laughs last may not know when to stop and that’s a worry…

Why oh Why did he fill my head with such wonderful distracting nonsense…

Great read TP as usual never disappointed.

  6. LWIII says:

Hey Truly, I know what you mean about the laughing last thing.

I wouldn’t mind so much about the why business if I could come up with some good answers. Learning the infinite universe idea is some consolation, since I know that if something bad happens it’s because it had to, it was just our turn.

But that’s only part of why, so I’ll keep on keepin’ on.

    Thanks so much!

“Everything happens” – just love that. Why’s kill me. Now, I get why they do :-)

    I also like that it’s infinity’s fault. a lot a lot.

Thanks la. Pretty cool that science has finally figured out why stuff happens…it happens because nothing doesn’t happen.

    Sweet!

  9. There’s that fetish for meaning again. I can relate. All my life I’ve sought a theory of everything. Thanks for this post.

  10. LWIII says:

You’re welcome Caroline, thanks for the comment. Still trying to grok my insight. What does it mean if everything happens? Kind of shifts my focus off happenstance onto experience. Wonder if that’s good?

I am rarely at a loss for words, but your posts leave me speachless. Thank you, thank you. Sometimes I wonder if you really exist, or if you are just an imagination. This post explains it. You have to be real. Somewhere, sometime, somehow.

    • LWIII says:

You’re welcome, FG! Yep, I really exist, though Lone Wolf III don’t. (top secret info, please keep to self) And thank you for your delightful comments. You really made my day!
